VOLSTAGG has landed on the Gold Coast and he’s ready to Ragnarok!
Towering Irish actor Ray Stevenson is in town to reprise his role as Volstagg in the Marvel Universe blockbuster Thor: Ragnarok, now filming at Village Roadshow Studios.
Modelled on Shakespeare’s Falstaff in character and name, Asgardian adventurer Volstagg appeared in Thor and its sequel Thor: The Dark World.
Stevenson,
52, showed off a permanent souvenir of his visit to the Coast, posing
for a photo with Dai Tattoo in Punktured, in Surfers Paradise, after the
Japanese artist inked a line design on the inside of his forearm.
Renowned for his role as Blackbeard in US TV’s Treasure Island prequel Black Sails and as Titus Pullo in the BBC/HBO series Rome, Stevenson has portrayed two Marvel Comics characters — Thor’s Volstagg and Frank Castle, aka The Punisher, in Punisher: War Zone and The Super Hero Squad Show.
One
of Thor’s “Warriors Three”, Volstagg wields a double-edged greataxe as
his weapon of choice and is variously known as Volstagg the Valiant,
Volstagg the Voluminous, Volstagg the Enormous and the Lion of Asgard.
While Stevenson was transforming himself into the battlefield veteran on set at the Oxenford lot, his Thor: Ragnarok co-star Mark Ruffalo hit the road for a family holiday after he finished filming his scenes as The Hulk.
Ruffalo
posted pictures on Instagram of the group enjoying time out on Lizard
Island and Tamborine Mountain and fans saw the family dining at Cairns
restaurant, Ochre.
The fan world was also abuzz after the Bulletin
photographed The Avengers’ state-of-the-art transporter, the Quinjet,
under construction on the Gold Coast set of Thor: Ragnarok.
The Quinjet was last seen flying off into the bifrost at the end of Avengers: Age of Ultron after being commandeered by Ruffalo’s Hulk.
It’s debut in the Thor franchise will most likely explain how Thor (Chris Hemsworth) finds Hulk in Thor: Ragnarok.
The
jet’s appearance and a cryptic Instagram post by director Taika Waititi
have also fuelled speculation Josh Brolin’s villainous character Thanos
will also appear in Thor: Ragnarok.
Brolin enjoys a rare
distinction in Hollywood thanks to his appearances in four different
film franchises based on four different comic book publications.
In addition to playing Marvel Comics’ Thanos in Guardians of the Galaxy (2014) and Avengers: Age of Ultron (2015), Brolin played a young Agent K in Malibu/Marvel Comics movie Men in Black 3 (2012), starred in DC Comics’ Jonah Hex (2010) and was Dwight McCarthy in the 2014 film Sin City: A Dame to Kill For, adapted from the Dark Horse comics.
Thanos,
touted by Avengers: Age of Ultron co-director Joe Russo as “the
greatest threat they (The Avengers) will ever face”, and his quest to
gather all of the Infinity Stones is expected to be the focus of 2018’s
all-star Avengers: Infinity War.
It’s a responsibility you have to the Indigenous people. You’re coming to a country and you’re bringing money into the economy and creating jobs but I think you have an even bigger responsibility to look after the people that have less opportunities.
Remember when good ol’ Tommy H. called his fans, called us, the nicest, most humble fans he ever met and proudly stated our fanmail was some of the most eloquent writing he ever received? I remember that very well and I am still one of those Hiddlestoners.
What I don’t remember is the point where we became a bunch of overly sensitive morons that stopped to admire Tom Hiddleston for his work and personality and instead started bashing on his personal life choices.
It makes me sad to watch this fandom go from admiring and positive to constant ranting and bitter sarcasm. So I went quiet for a few months, not even visiting tumblr anymore because I couldn’t stand all the hate and negativity that suddenly fills my dash instead of the joy and cuteness that I got so used to, that brightened my days and always made me smile.
Please, I beg you: won’t you rather go back to that state?
There are a lot of fans like that still around, you just have to find them and unfollow the negative people.
The hiddleston fandom has always been divided. Its just more blatant now. The same people that were jerks before, remain jerks. They’re just better at masking it in superiority.
